This is a biography of Bernard Berenson, an American art historian specializing in the Renaissance. He wrote The Italian Painters of the Renaissance and was a major figure in the attribution of Old Masters. He was born in Lithuania in 1865 but his family emigrated to Boston in 1875 where he would go on to study at Harvard. Eventually he was chief advisor to art dealer Joseph Durveen, and helped amass the collections of Kress, Mellon, and other tycoons. There is speculation that he and Duveen were less than honorable in some of their dealings, pocketing quite a profit for themselves.
