This is the first story in Season Two of the “Nameless” series. Nameless has no memory and gets his assignments from the mysterious Ace of Diamonds. In this story, Nameless’s assignment is to go after an arms dealer who has set up an underground bunker and supplies guns to gangs and terrorists. With an evil villain, an eerie, bleak setting, and a likable teen (Jimmy) who is helping Nameless out, this is another fine read in the “Nameless” series. ( )

Excited about season 2 of the Nameless series by Dean Koontz. There’s a lot happening in this first installment. Nameless has no recollection of his past; although emotions are seeping through. He meets a young man who is fighting for the opportunity to live his life free of bullying gang members in his neighborhood. His motivation is fueled by his mother, her illness, and the tragic loss of his father. Nameless aids the young man, Jim, in his fight against illegal firearms dealers. The story is so twisty and fascinating.

Couldn't get into this one, even though I had enjoyed the first "season" of stories. ( )

Trying Nameless Again
Review of the Amazon Original Kindle eBook edition (June 2021)

I wasn't that impressed with the first season of Dean Koontz's Nameless (2019). Its main attraction was its being a free offer through Amazon Originals. The stereotypical and predictable tales of a Jason Bourne-like amnesiac vigilante enacting punishment on the wicked quickly became tiresome and predictable and I gave up after the 3rd story out of 6. A bit more background to the mysterious Treadstone-like organization behind the scenes might at least add needed drama and suspense to the proceedings. The 2nd season seemed to promise something along those lines.

The opening episode The Lost Soul of the City did drop some hints about future developments. The villains of the piece were the usual cliched characters though, a megalomaniac city council chairman and a nihilistic arms dealer. Aspects of the heroes were overdone as well, the cover name for the title character is Recado de Verdad (Spanish for "Message of Truth") and it is mentioned in passing that he has an eidetic memory. That will make you pause to think about an amnesiac with an eidetic memory and all the contradictions it presents. The too-good-to-be-true ally character didn't develop much beyond that description. So overall, it was so-so, but I'll likely try a few more episodes again.
