A great example of old time classic Andre Norton, a cross between classic scifi and fantasy. On Yiktor, the Free Traders make planetfall to take part in the annual fair, to trade for their goods. There a spacer, Krip Vorlund, meets one of the Thassa, Maelen. the Thassa are nomadic people with mental talents that for the most part, shun technology, as Yiktor is a low technology planet. Thrown together by circumstance and fate, Krip and Maelen then struggle to save themselves and Yiktor from personal and political attacks. Good characters and a good plot, though in traditional Norton fashion, this is written in a very antiquated style and the setting is mostly fantasy, not scifi. Really a great read if you aren't looking for modern, edgy, hard scifi. To me this tied in very nicely with Norton's other series, with the mental powers and frequent references to 'the Old Ones'.
