'Why is this town called Mother's Rest?' That's all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It's a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal. Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there and there's something about Chang; so he teams up with her and starts to ask around. He thinks: How bad can this thing be? But before long he's plunged into a desperate race through LA, Chicago, Phoenix, and San Francisco, and through the hidden parts of the internet, up against thugs and assassins every step of the way, right back to where he started, in Mother's Rest, where he must confront the worst nightmare he could imagine. Walking away would have been easier.… (meer)

I've been a fan of Jack Reacher since the beginning and agree with other reviewers that the last few books don't meet the standard of those earlier stories. When I saw MAKE ME on sale for a low price, I snatched it up. My disappointment started at the beginning when Reacher met Michelle Chang. Their conversation was a litany of short sentences going back and forth, and without either of them answering specific questions. Reacher was on a quest to find out why the town was called Mother's Rest. He was being watched and followed. Somebody was interested in his every move.

Reacher and Chang decided to team up and travel to several states in search of answers to locate her missing partner.; encountering hit men along the way. The story lags and I found myself falling asleep quite often. It is finally at the end of the book when Reacher, Chang, and a newspaper reporter join up and return to Mother's Rest. They finally learned what might be happening in this small town and hoped to find Chang's missing partner; knowing they may have to fight the entire town. This is also the first time that I find Reacher almost getting beat in a fight and ending up with 'head issues' that impair him until the end of the story.

I'll pay more attention to the reviews before purchasing my next Lee Child book. ( )

I thought "61 Hours" was dark, but "Make Me" takes this to another level. Wont go into details but this one looks more like a cross between "8mm" the movie and standard Jack Reacher story. Action is there, Reacher does act differently in many ways, all ingredients are there. Except that investigation part seems a little bit too rushed ( sometimes it seemed like parts of novel were missing) and the way they confuse the main antagonists in the end.... it is little bit too far fetched even for a thriller novel.

But even with these shortcomings this is a good thriller, Reacher is still force of nature from whom evil guys cannot hide (and hey to be honest this is why I like the character). Recommended to anyone who likes thrillers and good action. ( )

Another excellent Jack Reacher story. I had no idea where this investigation was going. Reacher and his sidekick Chang travel the country to get this one solved. They go deep into their search for Chang’s missing work associate and uncover way more than they expected. ( )

WAY too slow and convoluted. Perhaps I am tiring of Reacher. Possibilities of the dark web and suicide?? I hope not! ( )

I didn't so much read this book as devour it. I love me some Reacher and this one sure didn't disappoint. Lee Child is amazing as is Reacher. ( )
