Nash Baxter is a liar. He’s the famous skeptic who rides his motorcycle across the country debunking hauntings everywhere he goes. Yet he knows ghosts are real – suffering remnants of the departed, held fast to this world and tormented by demons. Hell, it seems, exists all across the land, side-by-side with the living world. Nash has the power to see into that hell and destroy the demons by a force of will. But sometimes demons fight back. When they do, they possess Nash and force him to commit murder. Not that Nash minds. He does not feel emotions. Not fear. Not horror. That is until a mysterious woman comes into his life and convinces him nothing was ever as it seemed. He has one purpose in life – to save the world from the truest evil, an evil that lives and breathes inside of Nash Baxter himself.… (meer)

I enjoyed the first chapter of this book, and thought it had an interesting premise. However, after the first chapter, I lost interest, and thought the rest of the book was boring. I feel like this would have worked better as a short story. ( )

Wow... I was captivated throughout the entire story. I have to say that you really have to pay attention to what's happening in the book very well it you might get lost but once you find the rhythm the story really takes you places.

The imagery and way that things were described was my favorite part of the story. I could feel as if I were there, experiencing events with the main character, Nash. ( )

I will confess that this one started a little rough for me - I found the backs and forths in the plot a little tough to follow at first and it was difficult for me to really get into the flow of the narrative as a result. Eventually, however, I slipped into the rhythm of the work and in the end I could not put the book down.

This was a ghost story that was not a ghost story - the story of a skeptic who travelled the country debunking 'haunted houses' but who actually did see ghosts. Or did he? And why did he? This is the core question of the book, and the struggle to figure out who are the good guys and who are the bad guys among a cast of characters involving ghosts, demons, a psychic, two supernatural beings, multiple generations of police officers, a doctor, a jerk, and a small town cast of diner regulars took almost until the end of the book. I am not certain that I found the ending entirely satisfying, or even comprehensible, but overall I enjoyed this book once I got into it. ( )

This author has a great way with words and describes the scenes that take you there. Not your usual Angels and Demons story. You do have to pay attention because the story switches up and makes you think. The build up to the first battle scene was perfect and intense, but the climax was to quick. This is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. Micheal Scott Hopkins - keep writing because I’m now a big fan! ( )

What initially drew me to this novel was the premise - but this story ended up being so much more complex, with many interesting characters and an engaging plot. The protagonist, Nash, narrated the tale in a casual, conversational tone, which was mostly handled well in this work. However, I did think there was too much exposition - I would've liked to have been shown more of Nash's character & how it evolved, & have less of him outright stating this. Otherwise, though, this was a fun read, & I would recommend checking it out if you enjoy thrillers and/or stories with supernatural elements. ( )
