Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town, is awestruck when he discovers the neighboring Christmas Town. Inspired by their festive cheer, Jack decides to take Santa Claus's place for the season -- leading to disastrous results.

I saw this movie only once about ten years ago when I was a kid, and I have always remembered it fondly -- rewatching it now, though, I can't help but feel a bit let down by the story. It feels a bit dull and boring, which is such a shame because the rest of the film is amazing. A great deal of the characters are iconic, and the music is incredible, as is the whole design of the film. (I'm a sucker for Tim Burton's handiwork.) That's what creates such a unique predicament -- the design and music make me want to give this a 4.5, although without a particularly solid story, I can't quite justify that high of a rating. Recommended for viewers during the holiday seasons as a unique vision, but just know there isn't that great of a story, but the design and music are awesome.

Content Concerns: A little bit of slapstick violence and some dark imagery that might be a bit scary to younger kids, but that's really it.

One of the favorite children's movies in our house. It is both whimsical and slightly spooky, and equally good to watch, I think, at both Halloween and Christmas. I especially like the claymation that is used, rather than traditional animation. My DVD includes bonus features like Frankenweenie and Vincent, which are also fun to watch.
