Heerlijk boek. Een echte schelmen fantasy. En dat is mijn favoriete genre. Locke en Jean gaan op dievenpad en moeten allerlei obstakels nemen, onder andere een wilde tocht over zee en oceaan op een piratenboot. ( )

Locke Lamora en Jean Tannen zijn hun oude stad ontvlucht en zijn neergestreken in de machtigste plaats aan de horizon: Tal Verrar. Maar ook hier heeft iemand Lockes expertise nodig en die persoon is bepaald niet zachtzinnig in zijn pogingen hem te overtuigen.
De klus belooft eveneens weinig goeds: Locke en Jean moeten zich op zee voordoen als piraten. Geen prettig vooruitzicht voor twee dieven zonder zeebenen...
Hun vriendschap wordt flink op de proef gesteld in deze wereld van lekkende kajuiten, ontwrichtende oorlogen en rivaliserende kapiteins. Maar zelfs het zeeroversbestaan weerhoudt de twee er niet van om wraak te nemen op de krachten die ooit hebben samengezworen om hun leven overhoop te gooien.
