EL TIEMPO, LA PERPLEJIDAD METAFÍSICA, LOS MUERTOS QUE PERDURAN EN EL ESCRITOR, LA GERMANÍSTICA, EL LENGUAJE, LOS LIBROS, LA PATRIA, LA PARADÓJICA SUERTE DE LOS POETAS, EL AJEDREZ Y LOS ESPEJOS, TODO VUELVE A HACERSE PRESENTE EN LAS LÍNEAS Y VERSOS Y PALABRAS QUE BORGES, HACIENDO UN "MUSEO DE SUS SIMPATÍAS Y PREFERENCIAS", COMPILA EN ESTA NUEVA ANTOLOGÍA PERSONAL. SOBRE ESTE SEGUNDO INTENTO DE ANTALOGARSE A SÍ MISMO, LA SEVERA CRÍTICA DE BORGES LE HACE RECONOCER QUE SÓLO EL TIEMPO PUEDE EDITAR ANTOLOGÍAS ADMIRABLES. "LO QUE UN HOMBRE NO PUEDE HACER --DICE-- LAS GENERACIONES LO HACEN. LO QUE ESTÁ PLENAMENTE DE ACUERDO CON OTRAS AFIRMACIONES SUYAS QUE TIENEN EL MISMO ORIGEN Y EL MISMO FIN: "UN AUTOR DEBE INTERVENIR LO MENOS POSIBLE EN LA ELABORACIÓN DE SU OBRA", Y "DEBE TRATAR DE SER UN AMANUENSE DEL ESPÍRITU O DE LA MUSA, NO DE SIS OPINIONES, QUE SON LO MÁS SUPERFICIAL QUE HAY EN ÉL". LA ELECCIÓN QUE HACE AHORA, DESPUÉS DE TANTOS AÑOS DE SU PRIMER INTENTO, ES COMPLETAMENTE NUEVA, CON CONTADAS EXCEPCIONES DE TEXTOS Y POEMAS QUE PERDURAN EN SU CONCIENCIA. POR ELLO, BORGES ESPERA QUE LO ELEGIDO PROSIGA "SU INTRINCADO DESTINO EN LA CONCIENCIA DEL LECTOR". A collection, edited and arranged by the author, of his favorite writings. It's described as being for a "reader who seeks a representative sampling of the great writer" and a "standard introduction to Borges in [English]." I'd agree - there's a good mix here of short stories, essays and poetry. Some are well-known works which I've read more than once before' some more obscure (at least to me.) As always, Borges' writing is lyrical, beautiful and thought-provoking. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
After almost a half a century of scrupulous devotion to his art, Jorge Luis Borges personally compiled this anthology of his work-short stories, essays, poems, and brief mordant "sketches," which, in Borges's hands, take on the dimensions of a genre unique in modern letters. In this anthology, the author has put together those pieces on which he would like his reputation to rest; they are not arranged chronologically, but with an eye to their "sympathies and differences." A Personal Anthology, therefore, is not merely a collection, but a new composition. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
