3406. The Great Church in Captivity: A Study of the Patriarchate of Constantinople From the Eve of the Turkish Conquest to the Greek War of Independence, by Steven Runciman (read Feb 18, 2001). This book was read because of the superlative books on the Crusades and on the Sicilian Vespers which Runciman wrote and which I read (the former in November and December of 1974, and the latter on Nov. 7, 1982). The subject of this carefully researched well-written book was not of as great interest to me, and so it was not as much enjoyed, but Runciman was a masterful historian. ( )
