For a book whose alleged aim is to "establish better race relations in the world", this work is more concerned with spewing vehement racial hatred and vitriol at Ancient Greece and Rome than proving how these civilizations "stole" philosophy from the Ancient Egyptians with substantiated evidence. The preamble to the book is a big red flag, and the racial prejudice of the author pervades the whole book which is made unreadable by his neurotic contempt for the ancient Mediterranean civilizations. ( ) At the time this book was written,” negroes” were still trying to get themselves a capital N, and “black” was a fighting word. This is one of two books that I made sure both of my children took with them to college. The other being the Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter G. Woodson. Sure, Martin Bernal shows more impressive scholarship, but James died to pave the way. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In this bold and uncompromising book, George G. M. James argues that the "Greek philosophy" in which nearly all of Western culture has its roots actually originated in ancient EgyptDrawing on careful historical research and a radical rethinking of the conventional narrative of Greek history, James asserts that our celebration of the ancient Greeks as the creators of Western civilization and philosophy is misattributed. In fact, he argues, our praise rightfully belongs to the people of Africa. Furthermore, this massive intellectual and cultural theft has helped lend credence to the damaging notion that the entire continent of Africa has contributed nothing to world civilization. James explorers documented connections between celebrated Greek philosophers and the influence of Egyptian thought, proposing other possible links between northern Africa and Greece as well. An important book for understanding the history of philosophy, culture, and race in the modern world, Stolen Legacy is not to be missed. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
