This book introduces young readers to festivals in nine Asian Countries. I think this was such a great book, as it strongly covers the festivals that go on in Asia. Festivals in Asia was well developed with descriptive language. “ The lion dance had not started, but the streets in Chinatown were packed with people waiting for the dances. All around the crowds firecrackers were going off. Bing! Bang! Bing! Bang! Smoke and sparks flew everywhere.” This perfectly gave you a visualization of what went on in the streets during the New Year. Through each holiday talked about within the book you really get a feel and can have a pictorial imagination of what each holiday is like. Next, the illustrator’s images highlight and convey the different moods of the different festivals in Asia. The illustrations vividly capture the joy of each celebration and the experience that comes with it. Lastly, the language is driven with emotion. The powerful language used allows the reader to grasp the solemnity of each festival, as each Asian language throughout each country is incorporated within the text. Overall, the main idea of this book is following the traditions of each Asian festival while enjoying the experience that comes with it. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
