Kristin Hannah is a good writer, storyteller, and memory evoker.

Fly Away is the sequel to the hit, Firefly Lane, which I admit, I did not read but watched. I know I missed out on a spectacular book. That being said, I was intrigued by Fly Away, wondering how Hannah could do it justice following Firefly Lane. She did, mostly.

Tully, following the death of her lifelong best friend, Kate, and Kate's family, struggle to cope. Tully becomes reckless with her health, career, and life, while Kate's 18-year-old daughter Marah is tumbling downhill fast without brakes. All this while Dorothy, formerly known as Cloud, has turned a corner and is looking for a reunion with her daughter, Tully.

There is a lot to Firefly Lane, if you have nothing to compare it to and read it as a standalone, you will love, love, love Fly Away. I, however, compared (Sorry Ms. Hannah), and I was left flat. The book is great, it's just not Firefly Lane. That being said, I have yet to read a Kristin Hannah I did not appreciate. She is a fabulous author.

As a standalone, I would give this a 5/5, but as a sequel a 4/5. Rounding up, this one is worth a 5, but I will not reside on my permanence shelf. I will be donating for someone else to enjoy.

ok, I do have to say it was about hurt, depression, and loss....so not the most uplifting, but due to great character development... I could not put it down!!!!! ( )

I loved Firefly Lane and was thoroughly excited to head into Fly Away. My excitement was quickly dissolved. This book was written to be a stand alone, and I’m completely okay with that. The thing I didn’t care for was all the endless repetition.

So, Fly Away picks up in the after math of where Firefly Lane ends. I won’t say much more than that, because I don’t want to give any spoilers. What I will say was that I was eagerly anticipating finding out how all the characters would cope.

We definitely get to see that, but there’s so much repetition that I just found myself not even caring anymore. I spent the majority of the book forcing myself to read it, and for a 400 page book that’s not a good thing. I was very disappointed.

My other big problem with this book was the constant back and forth in the timeline. In most cases, I don’t mind flashbacks. However, in this book the point of view changes so many times that between the flashbacks and point of view changes I found myself really struggling to keep up.

The positive things were that the author’s writing style continued to be just a beautiful as it was in Firefly Lane. Also, the setting was artfully done. I have long sense written off ever living anywhere near Seattle. I’m not a fan of dreary weather, and when I think Seattle I think drab. Kristin Hannah has a way of making me fall in love with the city, and appreciate it so much that I want to just pack up and go tomorrow.

Overall, though, I was just begging the book to end. It was very slow for me. It just kept dragging on and on and on. Eventually, it wraps up nicely, but by the time it ended I just didn’t care anymore. I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars. ( )

Well this was a really long winded story which probably could have been broken down into three separate books. It went on and on and on..... but the ending was wonderful. I was sick and tired of listening to Tully and I wanted to kick Mara in the ass. The best part of this novel was when we learned more about Cloud, Tully's mother. It was an ok read but it didn't wow me. Kristin Hannah has written other books which are so much better. I recommend checking out her other novels instead of this one. ( )
