Fiction. Literature. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:"This eerie thriller...can stand next to Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and Stephen King's The Shining." â??Booklist (starred review)

New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda returns with a gripping and propulsive thriller that opens with the disappearance of a journalist who is investigating a string of vanishings in the resort town of Cutter's Passâ??will its dark secrets finally be revealed?
Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, managing The Passage Inn, a cozy, upscale resort nestled in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter's Pass. Cutter's Pass is best known for its outdoor offeringsâ??rafting and hiking, with access to the Appalachian trail by way of a gorgeous waterfallâ??and its mysterious history. As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story of the vanishing trail, then disappears himself.

Abby has sometimes felt like an outsider within the community, but she's come to view Cutter's Pass as her home. When Landon's brother Trey shows up looking for answers, Abby can't help but feel the town closing ranks. And she's still on the outside. When she finds incriminating evidence that may bring them closer to the truth, Abby soon discovers how little she knows about her coworkers, neighbors, and even those closest to her.

This is the second suspense that I read in a row and again it kept my interest and I read it in two days as I couldn't put it down. But when I got to the resolution I was disappointed. I thought it could have had a more interesting ending. There was one part that I found a little off.
I didn't understand why Abby isn't more upset that Cory broke into her room. And didn't she question how he knew to break in? Had he been following her? That part really bothered me
There was a lot of language 17 blasphemy, 11 F* word, 11 S***, 6 H***, 1 B***

Overall the story kept my interested but it wasn't an amazing book overall. ( )

Oh, this book, this book, I don't know about this book...it was interesting, yes, but some of the ways they had the plot and things unfold and then explained or implied, it irked me. I haven't known for sure how to review this one for a little while now because of how it rubbed me the wrong way with some of the story, especially the ending.
So, what drives me nuts is how they explain the MC, Abigail, accepting things and going on with her life as normal, which I can't really say much because if I do it will spoil the story, but Ugh it drove me nuts. I did not like the ending. I don't know how much I liked this book because of the way it was written.
Okay, I'm going to say something and it might be spoilery so here's your warning: don't read further if you don't want spoilers.

I dislike that after we find out why Abigail is living in this town and that her Dad was killed as one of the Fraternity Four who went missing etc and she figures out who/how her Dad was killed she's just okay with it - like she doesn't seem to have that much anger toward the person who killed her Dad/was involved in his death and she doesn't have them arrested. Instead, Abigail finds out who the current killer is and has them arrested and blamed and covers for her dad's killer - I mean what the heck? I do not like when stories use Stockholm syndrome, like it's all fine and dandy or whatever, and don't point out the issue with it or anything. I don't know, maybe I misread or misunderstood it, but that ruined the whole book for me and I did not like it at all.
Thanks to NetGalley and Scribner/Marysue Rucci Books for letting me read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ( )

The Appalachian Trail has had real unsolved murders on it. So I had hopes that this book would tie into that more....or be more gripping and suspenseful.....but I might be getting ahead of myself in the review.

Seven individuals have gone missing from the town of Cutter's Pass. It now has become a small town of legend (and probably would be featured on some Discovery Channel show). When a relative of a victim starts coming around seeking answers, it prompts Abby to seek answers. After all, she hasn't really been able to sleep well or think past the demons. What is the story that she just cannot crack?

I struggled with getting into this book. Or perhaps you could say staying engaged with the book. Instead of gripping suspense, I more got thoughtful meandering. We live through Abby's eyes including the resolution of the story. Never have I clamored for a flashback scene as much as I did while reading "The Last to Vanish." I wanted to experience what was happening (as macabre as that sounds) as opposed to being told.

By the time the ending came about, and ending I did not fully foresee, I was just ready for the book to be over. I think THAT is due to the author's writing style. I have tried other books of hers and something has been off. At least this one I finished. Is it enough to go back? That I am unsure of...... ( )

Happy Pub Day!

The Last To Vanish is Megan Miranda’s latest book that brings you a dark and gloomy atmosphere complete with a mystery that in the beginning you aren’t quite sure what/why/how it will evolve.

She is able to spin a story like none other and if you are a fan of her previous titles you will enjoy this one just as much.

Note: This book is for the thriller lovers who enjoy a vivid slow burn with a highly skilled plot located in a small town where people “coincidentally” disappear. ( )
