The Golden Millstones Napoleon's brothers and sisters, by R. F. Delderfield (read 10 Aug 2004) Delderfield was a popular historian--no footnotes and proudly (!) no bibliography, which certainly detracts from the book. This book is probably not as good as Desmond Seward's book, Napoleon's Family (read 11 Nov 1996), but yet I found it ultimately quite satisfying. I especially liked Delderfield's telling what became of each of Napoleon's siblings after 1818. Not too much good can be said for any of the siblings--Lucien was probably the best of the lot and he was often estranged from Napoleon. The saga of Napoleon is a fantastic one, and that the family could so quickly ape royalty is amazing. It was a different age. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
