I liked the first half better, even though I knew it to be just a prelude to the main story. Not one of my favourites, but a good read nonetheless. ( ) This was the audiobook version of the book Fairy Tale by Stephen King. Right off the bat I want to say that my outlook on this book was/is somewhat biased based on the fact that I did not like the reader, Seth Numrich. Just had a hard time getting past him. I liked Charlie and Mr. Bowditch, I liked Charlie's backstory, I liked Mr. (Howard) Bowditch's strange past, I liked Radar. As for the storyline, I like the discovery of the well and what comes after. I liked the location and the characters that followed. I liked the mystery, the horrors, the descriptions and the strange and wonderful sights and sounds. What I didn't like was the reader, I couldn't get past his vocalizations. This is obviously a personal thing, there times where his sounds, emphasis, and phrasing I just couldn't handle and was believable, which is a big thing for me and audiobooks. I want to believe the reader, I want to imagine that the story happened. And it just didn't for me with Mr. Numrich. I would have been better off to have just read it (as in not listening to it). Because of my likes and dislikes three stars is about all I can give it, though if I had read it I probably would have given it a better rating. This is a title for anyone who enjoys adventures, the fantastical, a coming of age story, suspense, and of course Mr. King. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself, and his dad. Then, when Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it. Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
