Plot:
Nimue is looking forward to graduating soon and become a demon hunter just like the rest of her coven. When a new tear to the infernal realm opens, Nimue follows her three coven parents and her coven brother there, hoping to see a demon for herself. And she does, but she has to watch the demons kill her entire family and take her arm - and with it her magic. Devastated and traumatized, Nimue finds a place with Rye, her coven's healer. She also finds hope in Fox who is specialized in material magic and promises to craft her a new arm. And she finds a sparring partner in Lan who helps her catch up on her studies. But Nimue knows she can't be at peace until she avenges her family.

Demon Hunter Academy is a good mix of fantasy world building and sexy romance. The pacing was a little off, but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Wow so that was a wild ride. The opening hits rapid fire - her coven (aka family) dies tragically in a sudden fight, she sustains a heavy injury, might be expelled from school - and I needed some time to settle into the story. But I'm glad I stuck with it! It stays action packed the whole time, but has more room to settle in with each of the characters' feelings, and I was rooting for them all the whole time. Also, would love to read more in this world for the magic system alone. It's so cool, and effective, combining wards/sygil type things with elemental magics. ( )

Demon Hunter’s Academy is a stand alone novel in a new paranormal romance world. Witch Nimue is in her last few months at the Demon Hunter’s Academy. Soon she will be able to join her coven in fighting the demon incursions into their worlds. Nimue decides to break the rules and follows her coven to a demon incursion. In the resulting battle, her entire coven is killed and she is seriously injured. Three men will help her, a gentle healer, a professor at the academy who crafts her a prosthetic arm and a classmate who helps her keep up with her studies. But will her need for vengeance prevent her from finding happiness with her three men?
The world building was quite interesting. In some ways this reminded me of a dystopian YA novel:there is a campus setting, the protagonists are all young adults, and there are dystopian elements of those in power oppressing and controlling the witches. There are a few plot points that were confusing, hinted at or left unresolved. The choices that the leaders make are illogical and not in the best interest of the witches or the regular humans and there isn’t much of an explanation. Some of the history of Nimue’s family is not resolved. There is a mysterious entity in the portal to the demon realm which isn’t explained. Possibly some of these issues will be resolved in further novels in this universe.
While there are some YA dystopian elements, this is a very adult book. It is a reverse harem erotic romance with polyamory and M/M sexuality. The sexual scenes are explicit, but not so excessive that they interfer with the action and plot. ( )

I love a good paranormal romance and this novel did NOT disappoint!!! I was hooked from the first page. The world the author has created is simply amazing! ( )
