In one of the book's central chapters, Jaquina Gilbert stresses how important it is for organizations to nurture and develop the talent of their employees - whatever their identity - not only for an ethical and moral issue, but also to transform individual talent into value, both for workers and for the organization. This, however, involves the need to face a systemic change; this imply that managers become aware of the importance and value of the differences, including cultural ones, existing in the organization.
The Author offers, in a simple and clear way, by examining a series of key concepts - Identity, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, just to name the main ones - a development path built to facilitate the approach to change.
It should be emphasized that this is an introductory text whose intent is not to go into the detail of survey methodologies or methodologies aimed at the production of human capital development projects. This book, like others in the Vibrant Publisher Self-Learning Management Series, aims to develop in the reader the awareness of having to face complex topics, possibly being supported by competent and qualified professionals with whom, however, it is essential to know how to communicate having acquired the necessary basic skills. This book is written precisely to facilitate this journey.
Until recently, I was convinced that the approach described by Gilbert was very far from the world of public administration. Today I have a different impression. I see that some managers are starting to consider important approaches like the one proposed. They are still few and perhaps they are not yet sufficiently supported. But something is moving and books like this can make an important contribution. ( )
