When her adoptive brother is murdered, she's on the case and on the suspect list, dodging paparazzi and digging for the truth. I enjoyed this - Marrow is damaged and not always nice, but she's tenacious and she loved her brother. Fast-paced and action-packed. This sci-fi novella is a true delight. The author has created a compelling future world of a post-apocalyptic undersea habitat, where the elite live a life of hedonism. The protagonist is the complex and likable Marrow Nightingale, a PI who is investigating the murder of her beloved older brother. A truly unique setting, great character work and a compelling mystery add up to a great read. I look forward to reading more by this author. With the very rich comes all of their perversions and quests for total power and dominance. I usually don't read this type of story, but was nominated as an early review reader. I am so glad, as this book is a must read. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. "Mai Tais for the lost" is real good fun. This neon-noir sf novella stars Marrow Nightingale, a wise-cracking, hard drinking PI suddenly investigating the murder of her brother. This story has the pace (Marrow has as little chance to sleep as we readers to put this down), the cool-sounding character names (other than Marrow, the vic's name is Rocket, and there are many more), the exotic locale (a post-apocalypse underwater city for the rich); the action set pieces (no spoilers here), the tropes (too many to name), and the humourous tone to become next year's sf block-buster (Luc Besson, make it happen!) The only negative is that there are only a couple mai tais being consumed throughout the novella - an opportunity missed. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The year is 2112 and on an environmentally ravaged Earth, there are habitat cities under the sea. Marrow Nightingale is a PI in Electric Blue Moon, one of the oldest of these cities, and when her adoptive brother Rocket Nightingale is murdered, there are more than a few people who would like to see her sent to the burning surface for the crime. Marrow must become her own client and catch a killer before she's sunk--or surfaced. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
