As someone who is already familiar with Spanish at a beginner's level - I found this to be a great tool to brush up on and refresh my knowledge. I printed out the eBook so I could properly use the workbook which was helpful. I'm not sure if this could be used as a stand alone tool to help someone learn Spanish, but it is definitely a great supplemental tool to have on hand. I find that the act of writing helps to remember, so I expect the learning exercise would have been far more effective had I done so. Regardless, I worked through it as is – sort of – well partially anyway. (And if I ever aim to be more serous in learning Spanish, I will print it out and work through it properly!) As with many other basic language guides, it is set up with common sections like the alphabet, numbers, introductions, dates & times, asking questions etc. It works as a refresher or just to provide practice to a new learner. There is matching & fill-in-the-blank type exercises, and the usual artificial dialogues. The instructions can be a little clumsy e.g. “name the answer number” or “Guess the word based on the given letter names”. There is an answer key at the back of the book. There is no pronunciation guide, which I would have found helpful, but the workbook is meant to be just a practice tool. And it is. I think it is worthwhile. I won a free copy of this book (thanks to the author & publisher!) and am voluntarily providing an honest review. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I took Spanish in high school...years ago now, and some of it stuck with me. I remember the basics. Then a few years ago I started using that app with the green owl. It brought some of the knowledge back, and now I've used this book. The book itself is nice. It breaks the work down into manageable sections, it sorts out patterns and almost makes a game out of it. If you just learning, this isn't a bad book and I would recommend it. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This workbook uses parallel text conversation examples and images to teach vocabulary and follows up with review sections, including multiple choice, fill in the blank, sentence ordering, and translation. This book covers the usual introductory topics. As someone who has taken Spanish classes in the past, I didn't notice any glaring mistakes. The ebook formatting was neat and tidy. However, this workbook is definitely not for anyone looking for a more traditional experience such as vocabulary lists and grammar rules before the practice exercises. Parallel text teaches the target language by having you read in that language and try to understand it through context with a native language translation of the text to help you. Some people may find this learning style helpful while others may struggle. It really just depends on the person. Overall, this was a well-written, beginner level Spanish workbook that could be a useful addition to a language learner's library. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I received more than one reminder to hurry up and review this, but the thing about workbooks - and language learning in general - is that rushing doesn't usually help. Sure, you can go on a frenzy and complete the entire workbook in a couple of days, but it's unlikely that you'll really come away remembering much. So I took my time with this so my review is based on how I'd use a book like this if it weren't for a review.
As someone who's put serious study into over a dozen languages over the years, I'd say I'm very familiar with different types of language workbooks and exercises. My impression of this one is that it's good but not extraordinary. It is packed full of Spanish exercises as promised, so if you're diligent about using it, it could really help you improve your skills. It's not a grammar 0r vocabulary book at all, though, so if you don't already have another source of learning those, it's not going to help you. This is just straight-up exercise after exercise, so you'd want to use it in concert with either a textbook or a speaking tutor.
The reason I say it's not extraordinary is that it simply uses tried-and-true exercise types and then repeats them throughout. If you don't like fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice, this is not for you, since they form the majority of the content. There are a LOT of dialogues, so it helps you to model conversations. If you want a wide variety of different types of exercises or more "exciting" ones, these probably won't interest you. Standard though they may be, they are as promised - exercises for improving basic Spanish - and they don't disappoint.
Finally, the answer key is included in this, which I really appreciate for self-study.
