This book has the same concept as Lon Po Po because it is the African version of Little Red Riding Hood. The girl goes to town to collect some things for her grandma, but a wolf comes along and acts like the granddaughter. Genre Fairy tale and folklore-inspired fiction Picture books for children Pace Fast-paced Tone Suspenseful Illustration Colorful Detailed Location Africa Ghana Subject Cleverness Cleverness in children Disguises Dogs Foolishness Girls Grandfathers Grandmother and granddaughter Grandmothers Mistaken identity Storytellers Strangers Tricks Niki Daly, from South Africa, shares a tale, set in Ghana, of a little girl sent to market by her grandmother. She runs into a wiley dog who convinces her to share her skirt, her scarf, and other belongings. In order to get things back she enlists help from grandfather and Ka Ka Motobi the Bogeyman. Lots of new vocabulary specific to Ghana with a glossary to help you learn meanings. I did not like this book. The language in this book was difficult to read since I do not know how to pronounce the African words like, "ntama", "Ka Ka Matobi", and "Goema Goema". I do not even know what this means. If I were reading this to a class I would be pronouncing these words wrong and I would not know how to explain what they were if I was asked by a student. In order for me to read this to them, I would need to do research. I like the plot of this story because it is one of my favorites from when I was a child; Little Red Riding Hood. But, I do not like this version of it. This version seems even more unrealistic in the sense that this girl gave up not only the basket of food but also her clothes and shoes. The main message of this book is to not talk to strangers. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In this version of "Little Red Riding Hood," set in Ghana, a young girl fails to heed Granny's warning about the dangers of talking to strangers. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
