This book, while not the best book, did thread history with fantasy and in the end, I ended up liking it. The descriptive language, the believable characters, and how the plot was organized made me like this book. What first got me to like this book was how the author used descriptive language to explain how the environment felt. A clear example of this is when she was describing the thunderstorm that was coming ,she said it "felt heavy and thick" and that "thunder rumbled" in the distance, letting her reader picture the storm that was approaching. While this got me engaged, I kept reading because of how believable the characters were, even the characters in the past. She does this by having them speak in the slang language of that time, like "mighty fine" and "thanks a million." The characters do not stray from their correct speech patterns for that time. The final reason I read this book through to the end was how well the plot was organized and executed. The best example of this is that the main characters never stopped trying to be friends with the guy they had to help nor left his side. This allowed a bonded to be formed through the book, instead of the author just having one be created instantaneously. The big message behind this book was to never give up on your dreams, because you never know what will become of them. ( )

Jack and Annie arrive in New Orleans, Louisiana ---back in time---1915! The tree house has taken them into another mysterious place--and time--the eve of All Saints Day. Since both children have a notebook full of stories about ghosts, this place is the best place the tree house could have taken them in the month of November of any year!

This book starts off with Jack and Annie traveling back in the to New Orleans, which is considered to be the most haunted city in the country. This mission given to them from Merlin is about encouraging young artists to share their abilities with the world. In the case of this story they were looking to help Louis Armstrong who they met while he was delivering coal. They helped him with the various jobs he had throughout his day and then did dishes to pay for the dinner they all ate. But it is the Eve of All Saints (Halloween) and they got locked in an old building where their search brings them in contact of real ghosts. They were able to play jazz and make it safely out of the building. They did have to show Louis their history book the History of New Orleans Music to be able to inspire him. It ends with how unfair the segregation laws that were in place at the time. The genre of this book is Fantasy.
