At the start their dislike of each other is a bit OTT but luckily they get over it quickly. The 3rd act conflict is also a bit silly (could have been talked out and resolved). This has its charms and overall it was a fun listen. There were issues. Jamie's parents have that cartoon villain edge that annoys me. Bea is as autistic as she needs to be for the story. We started with Bea showing evidence of a spectrum disorder. but other than sensitivity to food and clothing texture most of it disappears. Bea's badass behavior and extended staring contest at Jamie's parents party really bugged me since it was so inconsistent with what she had identified as triggers for her. Also later in the book there is discussion of loose hugs, which earlier Bea identified as uncomfortable for her, clearly stating she needed the pressure of tight hugs. Also, Jean Paul's behavior turned on a dime, there was no build up to a real personality change. I love the representation of people with social anxiety disorder and with ASD but I think if you are going to include that you have to be true to those behaviors throughout. This was fine for me, but the blurb says this is is based on As You Like It, and the comparisons are VERY minor so if that is the sole draw for you to read this I would skip. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
