Burning America: In the Best Interest of the Children? by G. Mick Smith is an interesting and fictional account of parenting, divorce and the affects on the children. I thought it was good. Three and a half stars. ( )

What a tale of parenting and divorce! This was a hard book to get into, but as I read more it became easier to follow. The topic makes this a very heavy read. I know the system isn't perfect, but this was a nightmare for all involved. ( )

Where culture divides, literature unites! As the title suggests, this is a book about a burning issue in America: Parents, children and the effects of divorce they suffer. The book thoroughly meets the expectations of a novel depicting certain social conditions so a big thumbs up to the author. Being in India, I began reading the book expecting something different. As I have never set a foot on American soil and for me, America is what they showcase in Hollywood movies, I expected it would be very different from Indian society. In the end, though, I realised that, like music, pain and suffering are also the same everywhere. Interestingly, I have read a similar book on a similar topic in my native language Gujarati too. Its name is 'Pushpdah' (which means the burning suffered by flowers, obviously the children!) by renowned Gujarati author Rajanikumar Pandya. It is a docu-novel of divorcing parents and their suffering children. This docu-novel was written in America by the author while staying with the same family in which the divorce was happening. Recently it has been translated into English by the name of 'Flowers in Flame' (ISBN: 978-9390572168). I must add, if you have enjoyed reading 'Buring America', which I most certainly did, you can also read 'Flowers in Flame' as they have very similar topics. Where culture divides, literature unites!

Review: Burning America by G. Mick Smith. 3.5* 08/16/2022

This is an Early Reviewer’s book that I received from the publisher. This is a heartwarming story that either parent could agonize over. In this case it was a Professor whose life was turned upside down. Paul planned to raise his daughter in a normal home environment. Paul came across a note his wife left in a book that shattered his life. His wife is leaving him and taking his five-year-old daughter with her. Paul called it kidnapping his child however, both parents had rights. The daughter was made to become an item and not a child. The conflict went on for three years in a custody battle within the justice department. Would this case end positive for both parents… ( )

This book is fictional account of kathirin and her parents (Paul and Anne) separation and custodian battle . This fictional account exposes the dark side of the custody industry in American judiciary. Children are treated like footballs and are simply kicked from place to place, without in consideration of there mental well being , with whom they want to live with, who is not good towards there responsibilities and parental rights are routinely violated, often with one parent who is considered no more than a paycheck, and the custody enterprise of judges, lawyers, and counselors profit from the displacement and misery of children. The state law and federal law and different attorney for different cases. The novel punches hard in the gut and does not let up until the untimely and tragic climax. The violation by loop holes and how custodian are treated and what went wrong and how they should intervene and stop the wrong doings, rather checking whose at fault. They take action and zero flexibility in human rights of the states. ( )

I read your book and I am impressed. You need to continue on with a sequel.

My friend, Jolene, has started the book and said "you can tell it's written from the ❤heart".

Quite a story but very well done. Brought up many sad memories remembering how our daughter suffered and still is suffering at the loss of her daughter. It is hard to believe if you did not go through similar problems. Lawyers, Judges, and child care people should be so sorry for putting children and some parents through this hell.

Great Read !
Wonderful book that every parent should read to know the importance of having both parents involved harmoniously in a child's life. The experience this dad and his young daughter endured for years is lost quality time and it leads to painful memories that negatively impact in their adult life.
