Probably as good as any starting point for any would be Martian hoping to understand humans. It's accessible and entertainingly written though some of the science of perception requires a few reads. A good overview of the origins of homo sapiens in terms of Darwinian evolution. Offers an intriguing analysis of how little of the mind is under rational control. Stimulating ideas are put forward as to how we may adapt in the future to overcome humanity's problems. I liked his idea of moving beyond tribalism to a common humanity. Based on his life's research, Robert Ornstein provides a look at the evolution of the mind. He explains that we are not rational but adaptive, and that it is Darwin, not Freud, who is the central scientist of the brain. Our minds have evolved to help us survive, not to reason. At the same time, our individual worlds have developed our minds and destroyed many of our natural abilities. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
