Light, child-friendly fantasy adventure. When trolls threaten to take over the dwarf caverns of Nadavir, Dvalin, a tribal leader, plans a visit to another dwarf group at Anasgar. His daughter Frigg and her little faery, elf, and unicorn friends are not allowed to go along. Then the trolls lock up all the dwarf men, and Frigg and friends go to Anasgar to seek help. You know they'll have adventures along the way, face a challenge at Anasgar, and succeed in what they set out to do, including raising the perceived status of females at Nadavir; the suspense is finding out how.

It looks as if this online community have no problem with either of two things about this book that some readers will love and others hate: (1) the dwarfs are devout worshippers of Old Norse deities, and (2) they win battles by beating people up, not killing them.

Accessible to good readers in grade three and up, this novel is well enough written that adults can enjoy reading it once, or even reading it aloud to children.

(Four stars on Goodreads, five stars here? I think it rates 4.5 stars and had trouble getting that to show.) ( )

What a great story! Frigg and her friends go on an adventure not just to save her community, but to find who she is and just how powerful a small group of determined friends can be. Just the right mix of girl power and respect for elders. This was a fast read, considering the 400 plus pages. I can't wait to read about their next adventure. ( )

Frigg, a young dwarf, wants to go to school and learn sword skills with the boys. While spying on the weaponry lessons, Frigg overhears a plot by the trolls to take over her home. Before she knows it, trolls have captured the males and taken over the colony. Her only choice is to go on an adventure with an assortment of magical friends. Will they save their colony? Will they convince other dwarves to help? This is an exciting romp with an excellent cast of characters. The terrific plot and storyline take the characters through a world full of challenges. The reader peeks in as the characters grow and change on their journey of adventure and discovery. This would be a great addition to an elementary school library. Readers who enjoy Fablehaven, Spiderwick, and the Hobbit will enjoy Frigg's Journey to Anasgar. ( )

I loved writing Frigg's Journey to Anasgar almost as much as I enjoy reading it! I hope that you will love it, too!

Frigg is a dwarf near to my heart. She's searching for adventure in a patriarchial society that wants girls to stay home and be good.
Tip, an elf, jumped into my head at the very beginning of our journey, and his amusing attitude and persistence kept him there.
Ping's a feisty, little faery. As the only faery in Nadavir, she's not quite sure how she got there and nobody else seems to know, either. But her snarky comments, changing hair colors, and joy in life make her a favorite.
Cricall is a spunky unicorn who wants adventure as much Frigg does. His healing magic will be a great asset on their journey if he doesn't talk them into a stupor first!
You wouldn't think glowworms would have much of a personality, but Glimmer manages to use his helpful glow as an expression of his emotions.

That's the gang. I hope you'll join them on their journey. It's going to be a rocky one with lots of twists and turns, so they're going to need some adventurous readers to cheer them along the way!
