I wish I could give this 3.75 stars, but it doesn't quite make it to 4 stars. Guillen's little book is his attempt to show that science and religion need not be enemies. In fact, taking his cue from Matthew 22:37-38, Guillen advocates what he calls "stereoscopic faith," using both your IQ and your SQ (spiritual quotient). (Matt. 22:37-38, by the way, from the KJV: "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.") The book makes some fairly good points, and the SQ idea is interesting, but the book is written for a WIDE sophomoric audience, and thus is not comprised, unfortunately, of deep philosophical arguments. Then there are the contractions. I can not stand reading serious non-fiction full of words like "can't," "doesn't," "they're," and so on. It annoys me. Nevertheless, it is a good primer with some neat little tidbits to throw in the face of those atheists and agnostics that equate faith in God with stupidity, ignorance, and the like. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
As Christians, we are often urged to turn away from scientific discovery and rely solely on the Bible as the source of our faith. On the other hand, many people in areas such as science, law, and education insist that Christian faith is lowbrow or unintelligent. But is it possible to reconcile science with what you believe about God? As someone who has grappled with the issues of science and faith in the public eye for more than a decade as a television journalist, Dr. Michael Guillen believes it is possible. In fact, by embracing the discoveries of science we can see God, the universe, and humanity in full, multidimensional glory. Fortunately, you don't have to be a genius to enjoy this book. The bite-sized chapters are full of fascinating scientific tidbits in an easy-to-understand format. Captivating stories of the author's childhood in the Mexican barrio of East L.A. and his work in television and research are woven throughout. There is even an entertaining SQ (Spiritual Quotient) test for readers to take. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Rather than explain this phenomenon, Guillen appeals to the heart, which anyone, including atheists, can do. Study Humanism, Guillen! ( )
