Vanessa goes for a walk one evening and meets Howard; she and Howard fall fast for each other, although Howard has just landed a job that will take him to the U.S. (they are in England). Meanwhile, Vanessa’s best friend Sam has just found out her husband has been cheating on her and will be leaving; she is a wreck. In the news, women around the city have been turning up murdered; a serial killer is on the loose. Add in that Vanessa also found a new job, with a nice boss who likes her.

There were times I was just annoyed with Vanessa and her reactions to Sam (and to some of the other characters). I guess she was being a bit selfish with her new romance happening, so maybe a bit understandable, but I was still annoyed with her. I was able to figure out what was going on fairly early on, but I still quite enjoyed the story. ( )

Suspense with a serial killer/stalker trope. The main character is both intriguing and so so stupid you want to grab her and shake her until she gets it. You can yell at her to not do the stupid thing and hope she doesn't... Readers can enjoy the story all the way through the end and not see the end coming halfway through like many suspense stories. This can be put-downable for some seasoned readers but fresher readers will like it well enough.

A good read. The book is suspenseful with a lot of twists and turns with different women. The situations surrounding this story keeps you reading. A book that is hard to put down. Serial killer. ( )

[Review of eBook]

In retrospect, Vanessa Finchley wonders about her foolhardiness, but a chance encounter between Vanessa Finchley and a gentleman needing help with his car finds the young woman immediately ready to do whatever she can to help. Howard Lynch is on his way to a job interview, but the difficulties with his car may cause him to be too late.

Vanessa finds herself smitten with Howard and handles everything, getting Howard to his interview as well as taking care of the car. And, although his new position takes him away from Manchester [to the United States], they meet whenever Howard is in town.

Along with her best friend, Samantha, her neighbor, Emma, Vanessa goes to work, attends parties, and meets new people, never realizing that she is in danger of losing her life.

=========

Early in the telling of the tale, readers are sure to have an idea where this story is going. However predictable it may be, it still draws the reader into the narrative . . . and there are a couple of unexpected surprises along the way.

The characters are well-developed, but Vanessa’s naïveté is sure to frustrate readers even as they root for her to figure it out . . . and survive.

Recommended.
