I received this ebook through the Librarything.com Early Reviewers Giveaway. It is more than a coloring book. There is a lot of information included about the body, and the illustrations are well done. This book would be very helpful to anyone wanting to learn about the human body.

This book is loaded with information about about the systems of our bodies and brain! As someone who doesn't remember anything from anatomy class, I thought it was a great refresher. The diagrams were very informative and made everything easier to understand for the visual learner.
Some of the pictures for coloring were blurry like they were enlarged too much. I had a PDF version of the book, so the professionally printed copy may not be that way. This was noticeable on my computer before I printed them, so it is not just my printer. Also, some of the diagrams for coloring were not drawn with crisp lines, which bothers me as I prefer dark, crisp lines when coloring.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. ( )

(This book is Dr. Fanatomy's Human Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Book with a neuroanatomy section added. You can see my review for that book for additional information)

Why I picked it up: I received a free e-book version of Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy Coloring Book with Facts & MCQ's by Dr. Fanatomy from the publisher through the Library Thing Early Reviewers program.

My Expectations: I was excited to review this book, since I took neuroanatomy in graduate school.

Intended audience: The neuroanatomy addition to the book, appears to be intended for those with photographic memory and a good understanding of neuroanatomy to begin with.

What I liked: I was excited to see that the second part for the brain anatomy didn't have the design issues of the first, but it still had the repetitive instructions and absolutely no information at all, only numbered lists of names that correlated to numbers on the diagram.

What I didn’t like: I don't like the cover, except for the colored heart.Though I like the look of the pages, and I'll probably spend some time coloring the detailed diagrams, there's very little useful information for anyone who doesn't already have a working knowledge of neuroanatomy. And even then, it doesn't provide anything but names. I found the arteries diagram odd, like there were a couple golf tees shoved in that brain.

Overall, the first part of the book was the exact duplicate of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Book , flaws and all. The second part, the neuroanatomy section got rid of many of the design issues I didn't like in the first part, but also provided absolutely no information except names. Though I like the clarity of the coloring book aspect, some of the diagrams aren't clear, and there isn't much to learn just memorizing names. ( )

I will not quote that song by Brenda Lee, though it is sorely tempting.

The reason I requested this one, actually, is I have an interest in anatomy coloring through my partner, who is an artist who has executed a number of works based on imaginative reconstructions of human anatomy, mostly at the level of musculature, bones, tendons, etc. The evaluation here is my own, though, not hers.

This is part of a set of coloring anatomy books in the Dr Fanatomy series. It's a double volume, the first part dealing with human anatomy and the second with neuroanatomy. It is difficult to imagine anyone actually printing these off and coloring them, but I suppose it is a workable project, for anyone so inclined. It would involve a lot of paper and a lot of crayons (or preferably colored pencils). In many different colors, because some of these are in more than twenty different segments.

The first book (or first part of this volume), dealing with anatomy, is much more successful than the second. First off, the subject matter is not so abstruse. Circulatory systems, digestive systems, lymphatic systems, etc. are fairly common knowledge to begin with. The segmentation of the body is clear, logical and easy to follow. There is a helpful though brief explanatory section preceding each of the set of coloring pages. There is also a pre-colored sample of each of the non-colored pages, for the sake of comparison, and those generally help to make the parts clear. If you are a serious student, you will probably have other online references or texts to fill in the details, anyway. The information here is a pleasant introduction but very far from being a thorough course in the subject matter. One issue is that some of the text is ambiguous and at times barely comprehensible, like one of those printer manuals translated from Japanese.

The second part, on neuroanatomy, is, though shorter, far denser. To make things worse, there are no explanatory texts at all. There are diagrams with labelled parts, but what on earth do they represent ? How many people are familiar with Brodmann areas or thalamic nuclei ? And under each of these headings, there are further subheadings that are even more cryptic and obscure. How about "dorsal longitudinal fasciculus" ? Or "medial preoptic nucleus" ? You had best be already familiar with the subject matter or prepared to google all of it very extensively. The diagrams for coloring are not so helpful here, either. There are too many parts, too many labels, and the pointers that extend from the labelled numbers into the diagram itself overlay the edges of the parts to be colored and make them difficult to distinguish. If the arrows had been done in a different color, or even using dotted or dashed lines, this would not be a problem.

As it is, it is a mixed bag: executed with only partial success, especially when it comes to the neuroanatomy. The anatomy part along, though, might be worth the price of the book. ( )

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this as an Early Reviewer. No compensation was received other than the chance to review this book.

This book, an ARC of anatomy coloring books for adults, is geared more towards those who may already be studying in the fields where this knowledge is required. I am not in the medical field, and so cannot comment on the medical accuracy of the terms used. What I did find from these works (offered as a 2-in-1 combining human and neuroanatomy), is that the overall layout of the diagrams, the basic flow of the book, and the detail of the drawings were good. This 2-in-1 set seems to be geared more towards the supplemental study guide market, instead of as a primary source material.

Recommended for: those who enjoy adult coloring books and those who enjoy learning a little about the human body. ( )
