I was glad to receive this book. I was working with a person that is a recovering addict. I learned a lot and was able to be there for this person and able to listen without being judgemental.

This book is straight from the source. Very real, relatable messages, experiences, and challenges to anyone trying to understand addiction. Recovery books can get bogged down with jargon, trending practices, or even religious agendas. This work is stark, honest, and comes from a place of pain and experience. It is a conversation without pretense. The book doesn't promise answers as recovery needs to come from the Individual but it does engage the reader and show that there is a path to be found, a goal to be met, and a end to the tunnel with a better life in the other side. Very strong work and should be a essential part of any recovery program. ( )

Practical step by step guide to help addicts in their journey to recovery. It is written by an addict for addicts, so the steps are realistic and appropriate. And the author is very candid, the journey is not easy, but success can be achieved. If you are struggling, this is a great book to get you started on the road to recovery. After reading, I passed my free copy on via a Little Free Library and it was quickly taken. ( )

I am strictly AA Old School, but this book has some great advice for those struggling with sobriety. Worth the read! ( )

"Play The Tape: 5 Simple Ways to Help You Stay Clean and Sober One Day At a Time" by Belle Motley This book is a great resource for people struggling with drug and alcohol dependence. It is a lot like the 12 step style books but written by an addict, for addicts. There is some useful information to help loved ones of addicts as well, which is always pretty important to include. There are some really great tips to help the addict stay sober, which sets this book apart from some others. The author does not make you think this will be an easy journey, but with the tools provided let's you know that it is possible. This is a great book that should be available to people struggling with substance abuse issues. I wish I had more copies to hand out to some people in need.
