i desperately wanted to like this book. i loved the first part where the characters were introduced and the murder was setup. but then the mystery didn't build up from there and i lost interest soon after. the characters seem dissociated from me, and from each other, and from the story. the plot keeps loosing itself and loosing me. i cant really call this a detective mystery (not much detecting done) or a thriller (not a lot of thrills, too). and for all that, it was easy to guess the murderer.

the author can write atmosphere, though. maybe this could work better as a drama on screen? ( )
