I love the fact that most of the characters are older – retirees – it’s a nice change from so many mysteries that focus on twenty-somethings. The characters are all memorable – very memorable – starting with main character Stewart Johnson who has just moved to the retirement community only to find himself in the middle of a murder mystery. He quickly makes friends – and finds a touch of romance – his friends are a motley but fun group. The mystery is well done with several murders (mostly occurring off the page) – this isn’t really a guess whodunit kind of book but the kind of book where you sit back and watch the amateur sleuths fit the clues together. Unfortunately, while the characters are the strong point in this book, at times I also found them to be the weak point. Author Kris Courtney does an excellent job of showing both the good and bad of aging and while I laughed out loud more than once while reading the book, a little bathroom (literally) humor goes a long way and I really disliked his descriptions of overweight characters in the book which bordered on being mean. However, with some editing, I think future books in the series will be worth reading although I’m not sure if he can top the very Florida like ending of this book!Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I am interested in senior sleuths lately, and more books about seniors seem to be appearing. The idea of a retirement community appealed to me too, just to see how accurately the people there were portrayed. The author portrayed people in a retirement community very well, and the characters were fun to read about. I like cozy mysteries too, and this one fit several of my reading choices. The characters were very believable and the types of people that make the best of friends. The story was interesting and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was a very fun read, especially if you are at the right, ripe age. If you are interested in a fun adventure check it out! Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Very good book. I enjoyed the escapades of the elderly residents of the mobile home park tremendously. They mystery was pretty well solved well before the end of the book with some details missing but I do not believe this was supposed to be a really hard thinking mystery. It was more of a fun romp. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. this is for the early readers. When I first started this book I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but as I continued it really caught my interest. I loved the characters, you could almost see what they looked like. The story was fantastic and really kept your interest. I must say the ending was the shocker it was well worth reading it.
Engaging, Breezy, Funny and Descriptive "This book is exemplary in character appeal (or interest) and development. Wonderful job creating well developed, realistic and quirky characters that, rather than appear too over the top, are actually true-to-life... metaphors are creative and kept me chuckling throughout. The cover perfectly captures what your story is about. I thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie between the residents at Sun Gate. Each character felt real, and their own individual character traits brought each of them alive... unique elements and will appeal to many readers! Nice balance between emotion and action. You also handle humor very well. I found myself chuckling throughout with your witty dialogue... I especially liked Stewart. It was nice to see growth in his character. He's introduced as an introverted bystander who doesn't want to belong to anything or anyone after the loss of his wife. During the course of the book, he becomes a champion for all of the eccentric yet quite lovable characters living at Sun Gate...Sun Gate sounds like a fun place to live, as long as I have Stewart looking after my welfare." Book is exemplary in production quality and cover design WRITER'S DIGEST (Editorial Review ~ December 11, 2023) OUTSTANDING FUN! Kris Courtney creates a fun, light cozy mystery with well-developed characters. Narrator Mari Oyaizu Carson masterfully kept the voices perfect for all the characters. The story’s pace added to the excitement and tension of this satirical murder mystery. A masterpiece of voice acting that makes listening easy and impossible to pause. "Mischievous Community of Snowbirds who refuse to act like grown-ups...The mystery is particularly well designed and developed with many twists and turns. Florida Retirement is Murder celebrates the joy of retirement with characters that will have you pausing your read to finish laughing, and tells an engaging mystery adventure whilst doing it. It is a book that I highly recommend to all readers." Lexie Fox ~ Readers' Favorite (January 26th, 2023) The book is well-stocked with interesting characters...one of many amusing and touching details that help bring this tightly knit world to life. A comfortable and sweet conclusion—but not without an ending that's both darkly amusing and appropriate. Booklife llc. by Publishers Weekly (December 6, 2022)
FLORIDA RETIREMENT IS MURDER "Snowbirds do more than just Flock"Stewart Johnson had worked hard his entire life to reach retirement. However, his Golden Years would prove to be more of a challenge than he anticipated after his wife passed away. Seeking to find peace of mind and warmth in Florida, Stewart became surrounded by a tribe of Snowbird residents who took him on a journey of laughter and sleuthing inside a gossip riddled community filled with the humorous dysfunction of overgrown children. The setting is in Central Florida and the dramatic genre of "Fictional Satire Mystery Novel" appeals to both young and old. With the more-alike-than-different family ancestry, we all share some of the very same quirks and ability to laugh at ourselves. It is that level of vulnerable exposure inside the mind of senior citizens that we can all relate to with humor. This book will cause the reader to laugh out-loud and relate back to their own memories or current life history, not to mention an entertaining 'Book Club' experience. This colorful story will fit perfectly on every shelf and screen.Oh, Wake Up, Earl!? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
