This is the second book in the cozy mystery series featuring the pragmatic mom of three, Lois Meade, who owns her own housecleaning service. Leave it to Lois to find not just one, but two dead bodies, neither a well-liked, or upstanding Long Farnden resident. Inspector Cowgill convinces Lois to put her snooping skills to the test once again. This is an enjoyable series. I found this installment satisfying. One thing bugged my feminist sensibilities, though it is true of many cozy mystery series. Lois is a smart, resourceful, strong character, yet as yet at one point in the book, she needed rescuing, like a damsel in distress. Pugh! This second book in the series is cleverly plotted and the main character, Lois Meade, is definitely becoming more appealing by the chapter. This one has one of strangest set-ups for finding a dead body that I can recall. Lois is taking a break in a small, peaceful chapel, when she discovers a dead body dressed up in a full suit of armor. Detective Inspector Cowgill implores her to use her position as a cleaning lady in certain key homes to uncover useful information about the case, so she takes up sleuthing once again. Some positives for me, besides the main character, were the excellently depicted small-town British setting, the description of Lois' juggling family duties with her work and sleuthing, and the interesting array of supporting characters. I thought the ending was a little weak, but overall I found this to be an entertaining read. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

The mystery in this one is good, but I do think you can figure out the killer a little too early for my liking. It doesn't take away from the overall story, though. ( )
