Nelson Mandela was a man who went through a lot of trouble he was put in jail for trying to free his country and he went through all the trouble to the president of Africa . He was put in jail for twenty-seven years and he still didn't lose a fight. He was once a lawyer in his early life. In 1970 africa business and financial plan were bad and was hurting the community. Nelson walked all around the roads and through places no one would dare to go and he helped his people and he helped everyone else that wanted to be free for a right . His two daughters helped him walk also but when he was in jail they could never see until a certain age but his wife Winnie Mandela helped him for his sack and for her country also and in 1999 they were finally free and were and free country in South Africa ( )

No Easy Walk To Freedom by Barry Denenberg is about Nelson Mandela’s lifetime 1918-2013.This biography tells the life of Nelson Mandela in Africa and what he experienced living there.Nelson Mandela is born July 18,1918,Mvezo,South Africa. The book told how he saw many of his people die for no reason and how his goal was to help defend them.Even kids were getting killed. The first o’s name was Hector Peterson who got shot by the police in Soweto.Mandela was a public figure during his time and is now consider the symbol of South Africa. From nothing but a tribal boy, to getting jailed for half of his adulthood which is twenty seven years at Robben Island, to ousting an apartheid government, to becoming the president of his nation.

I thought the book was great it shows shows people standing up to the government and the police.Even when people were shot it did not scare Mandela’s people. But I don’t see how the police will kill kids because of their skin color. At the end of the book Barrack Obama visited Mandela’s prison.

I enjoyed this biography because the author gave a detailed account of his life from a child to an adult. I like how the author was able to write about the harshness of apartheid and black South African life in language that was appropriate for a middle reader to understand. It also celebrates his determination, rise to power, and his presidency. I liked how the timeline included information before Mandela's birth. The black and white photographs were also effective in telling Mandela's life story. One photograph that really stayed with me was President Obama looking out the window of the Robben Island cell where Mandela was imprisoned. This book would be a great addition to the biographies in the classroom and library. I plan on using it in biography literature circles.
