Read from a neutral standpoint, this book will come across poorly written and poorly referenced. The book projects a very gossipy vibe and seems nothing more than a retelling of third-party horror stories and negative-spin media articles. Additionally, the level of respect and authority is notched down every time Bill Quinn uses juvenile words and phrases like "blankety-blank", tell them "where to go", and "Hell."
While unsavory practices may be happening within Wal-Mart, it is hard to determine the level or validity of "destruction" from this book, as little concrete evidence is present. Quinn seems to hold everything but the consumer responsible for Wal-Mart becoming the giant it is today. With this in mind, "What You Can Do About It" is not shop, supply, or support it.
If you're looking for some good gossipy horror stories, this book will be right up your alley. If you're looking for numbers and facts, this might not be the book with which to start. ( )
