The story line is really good but the artwork is somewhat strange. I guess its because I saw the anime before I read the book. Still, its pretty nicely detailed and there seems to be more of the story then the anime. ( ) Kantarou is a folklore scholar whose hobbies include saving youkai (monsters) and earning enough money to support him and his fox-demon maid. He wants the world to know and believe in monsters as he does and to that end he is obsessed with finding the legendary goblin-eating monster who has decided to name Haruka. While on an investigation to assist a woman whose fiancée has been possessed he is told of a tenko shrine which turns out to actually be the sealed tengu he has been looking for and he releases and binds to him the most powerful of all monsters. This is another manga I just had to try out based on my watching the anime. Unlike some, there are certainly differences between the two. The manga artwork makes the characters appear younger, with Kantaro looking much like a little boy. I will say that in both the anime and the manga Haruka is certainly an attractive goblin :-) However, the stories themselves in the manga seem to have a little more personality to them than the anime which is very episodic, concentrating more on action than character. Not that I've disliked the anime, but I can certainly see why many people seem to prefer the manga. I'll certainly be continuing on with both the manga and anime series. From the same author as Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok (which is fun!), comes Tactics. It's a fantasy with a guy who can control various supernatural beings. The main character Kantarou is awfully young looking but I have no idea how old he really is, even though the back says he's "all grown up". He's cute, like Negima, a 10 year old is cute. However, the Tengu Haruka, now we're talking hot guys with his long sweeping locks. Some of the demons could classify as cute animals, I suppose. However, the story is fun and moves along quickly. I enjoyed it as a quick read and I plan to get more. I had to buy this one and I will buy more to continue the read. Not many libraries are carrying it, or so it seems, yet. Perhaps it's in their cataloging backlog, I don't know. However, if you're looking for a light fun read, pick it up. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
