I have read Wendig's other writing book, Damn FIne Story, and not that I felt that one was too aggressive, but the tone of this one definitely works more with where I'm at personally with wanting to write. It's still funny and a bit crass, which is what I expect and enjoy from Wendig. Definitely check it out if you need some soft inspiration and a reminder that you can be kind to yourself while still putting in the work. ( ) Gentle Writing Advice is the book I needed to kick off my 2024 writing year. At its core, it’s an anti-advice book. Chuck’s take on how he’s written over the years and how his perspective has changed with experience, filtered through the lens of a global pandemic. He offers up the old sage wisdom and then breaks it down, giving all the reasons that those “truths” are subjective at best, and myths at worst. It’s a fast read. Clever, witty, and full of the profanity that fans of his work have come to expect. If I have a complaint about it, it is the number of footnotes. A lot of comic relief is packed into them but they're overall distracting. Recommended for writers looking to extend themselves a little grace and write from a place of inspiration rather than from a purely business perspective. Also, for those who don’t mind a heavy dose of vulgarity. This one won’t be for everyone. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
