Oh, hier hebben we zo lang op moeten wachten! Maar eindelijk was het daar: het derde deel in De laatste uren trilogie. Jammer genoeg het finale boek (wat doe ik hierna!?) én het lange wachten méér dan waard. Ik heb 733 pagina’s lang gesmuld van Ketting van doornen.
We vallen direct in de actie: James is wanhopig op zoek naar zijn zus Lucie en Cordelia (James zijn vrouw) is met Matthew (James zijn parabatai) de bloemetjes aan het buiten zetten in Parijs. -Inderdaad, boek 3 sluit naadloos aan op boek 2.- Ik moest er even terug inkomen, hoe zat het nu ook alweer en wie is waar en waarom en… Gelukkig heeft Clare daar enkele trucjes voor verzonnen (brieven, herinneringen,…), ik denk dus dat ik niet de enige lezer ben die een opfrissing kon gebruiken :)
Normaal gezien is fantasy mijn ding niet en toch verslind ik gulzig alles wat Cassandra Clare schrijft; ik ben verslaafd aan de Schaduwjagerswereld. De personages voelen na al die jaren een beetje als mijn vrienden. Clare schrijft vlot, meeslepend, empathisch én met humor. Haar personages zijn levensecht - ook haar demonen en heksenmeesters ;) -, de dialogen lopen soepel en het verhaal zit vol onverwachte wendingen en cliffhangers.
Naast veel bloedstollende actie is er ook dit keer veel ruimte voor (queer-) liefde. Ontluikend en opflakkerend. Van kuise zoenen tot passionele bedscènes: je supportert voor allemaal!
Het enige jammere aan dit boek is dat deel 3 ook het einde van een reeks betekend. En ik ben helemaal nog niet klaar om afscheid te nemen van James en Cordelia en hun extended family! Ik vertrouw er op dat Cassandra Clare snel met iets nieuws uit de Schaduwjagerswereld komt! Deze verslaafde heeft haar dosis nodig ;) (
