Having read other Wambaughs I turned to this book after doing a spate of Churchill readings. The book is entertaining and deals with to some degree with the alienation that law enforcement can impose on one's emotional life. ( ) The Glitter Dome is another stellar entry in Joseph Wambaugh's chronicles of the LAPD. The eponymous institution is a watering hole for the group of cops we get to know almost strictly through their day-to-day action on the job. Hilarious at many points, like all Wambaugh books, however, it's built on a dark foundation of desperate sorrow and human suffering. Truly, there are few writers who cut closer to the bone when exploring the truth about human nature. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

A New York Times-bestselling police thriller by the author of Harbor Nocturne: Two LAPD detectives look into the murder of a Hollywood studio boss. It's the wildest bar in Chinatown, run by a proprietor named Wing who will steal your bar change every chance he gets. On payday the groupies mingle there with off-duty LAPD cops, including homicide detectives Martin Welborn and Al Mackey, who get assigned the case of a murdered Hollywood studio boss who may have been involved in some very strange and dangerous filmmaking. Hilarious at times, heartbreaking at others, this book was likened by theNew York Daily News to a "one-two combination that leaves the reader reeling." Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
