It is a good book to use for Kindergarteners because of the simpler words and shorter lines. The pictures in this book are also goofy and fit will with the story. This would be a good book to use to explain how the author and illustrator both do different things because of how the pictures and text are broken up into sections. You can also use this to talk about problem and solution because whenever there is a problem, Duck seems to think he knows a good solution for it. You can also talk about cause and effect. One thing going wrong seemed to lead to something else going wrong later. You can talk about how problem/solution is different than cause and effect and see if students can come up with a scenario for each to show their understanding (1st grade lesson). You can talk about repetition too whenever he says "this looks like a job for fix-it Duck!" You can have students read that with you each time it shows up to keep them engaged in the story. This is also a good book to use to talk abut rhyming. You can have students learn a few words that rhyme and see if they can create their own sentences with rhyming words after you read the story. Kindergarten standard: 6 This book could be used in kindergarten or first grade to teach comparing and contrasting the experiences of different characters. For example, students could compare Duck's experiences and thoughts with Sheep's experiences and thought which would be much different. It could also be used in second grade to teach how the rhymes in the book supply rhythm to the story. Continuing the series of "Duck" books, this time Duck's misadventures involve trying to repair broken objects and making things worse in the process. Forced rhyme is my biggest complaint, BUT these are good books for phonics practice. The repetition of "fix it, Duck" encourages interaction so it makes a decent read aloud for grade 1. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
