"When local shop owner Norah Zumwalt asks Victory O'Shea to trace her family tree, Victory - Torie - never dreamed it would lead to murder." "Torie is the resident historian, genealogist, and tour guide of the historic German town of New Kassel, Missouri. Though she knows she's overworked already, Torie cheerfully agrees to the job because it's so intriguing: she's to find out what happened to Norah's father, who left to serve in World War II but never returned, and his ancestors, about whom Norah knows almost nothing." "As luck would have it, Torie gets some surprising answers for Norah right away, but when she tries to tell her what she's found, Norah puts her off, then vanishes. Torie finally goes to Norah's home to deliver the news in person, only to find the poor woman murdered in her own home." "Torie quickly realizes that she may have stumbled onto a mystery more complex - and more dangerous - than the question of Norah's ancestors, and that by nosing around, she's put herself in harm's way. Struggling to balance a murder investigation with her work and the care of her family is tough enough, but when the mighty Mississippi floods, threatening her home and New Kassel itself, it might be all Torie can do to keep her head above water. Especially if someone is trying to force her under..."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved… (meer)

I read this book due to the genealogy aspect. I liked it! I have never read this author. It is a quick read.
Just enough mystery,and genealogy.Enjoyable! ( )

I enjoyed a great deal of this mystery. The mixing of genealogy with a murder mystery seems the perfect blend - is it a new murder or one tied to the past, and how? The main character had some traits that I wasn't that fond of but I was able to mostly ignore them and enjoy the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series. ( )

So happy to have found another author that makes me all warm and cozy as Susan Wittig Albert's writing does. Looking forward to reading all of this series. ( )

This is the first book in the Tori O'Shea series, and I really enjoyed it. The characters are quirky and off-beat, the setting is small town US where everyone knows everyone else, and the mystery is fun and not that easy to figure out. Torie O'Shea is a genealogist, so she is used to digging deep to get information. When one of her customers is found dead (actually by Torie herself) she can't resist nosing around to try to find out what happened. Things start to get dangerous for Torie and her family the more she uncovers. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this totally cozy series. ( )

Not bad for first novel. A few blant mispelled words and extremely poorly edited. Example telling us a mans mother died on one page then on the next telling him that she will tell his mother. ( )
