Andrew's sister Anna seems to spend all her time arguing with his parents, now that she is at university. His parents are happy to tell stories about the days of the sixties when they were rebels but are less happy when it comes to their daughter exercising similar protests. Andrew is staying out of the argument until his sister comes to him with a dangerous proposition ; that they hide an East Timorese refugee who is in danger of being deported in their huge house. Andrew is reluctant to be in on his sister's scheme at first, but then he makes a choice to break the law. Unfortunately this book is somewhat dated due to the Timorese people being currently better off than when this book was written, however, substitute [other oppressed country]'s refugees / boat people and it still has relevance today. p.46-52 Anna tells her mother she wants to hide a refugee.
