This was the first book on my Goodreads list when I started my account more than 3 years ago. I finally got to it. I didn't feel close to the characters, they seemed very distant. And I don't know about you, but if someone turned me into a werewolf, I think I'd have stronger feelings than Maris had. She seemed very immature. A teenagers full of teenage angst trying to find a way to get away from her mother becomes an au pair for two children in England. Of course, the couple lives in an isolated estate in the country. Of course, the mother seems fagile. Of course, the father seems more attentive to the au pair than to his wife or children. Of course, Maris is drawn to the desirable, handsome older man. The story is so opaque that it's laughable. And of course, although Maris wanted nothing more than to become a werewolf, when she kills Derek and returns to the US she's trying to deal with having to hide her true self from society and not sure how she is going to accomplish that. Cautionary tale...becareful of what you wish for. (so sick of THAT thought!!) The young vampire/werewolf story lovers might take a bite out of this one. :-) "The Blooding" by Patricia Windsor starts out fine. Maris is a teenager who wants to escape her mother, and when a chance to be an au pair in England pops up, she takes it. She soon finds out that all is not what it appears to be. This is a depressing book, and includes suicide. The mother of the children seems ignored and put down by her husband. The father shows way more interest in Maris then he should. (And out of nowhere she returns that interest.) He 'bloods' her- making her a wolf like him. It goes downhill from there and this story does not end happily. I would NOT recommend this book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
