Not the best Thurber - a little too biting, not quite nonsensical enough. The first section, about the trials and tribulations of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, didn't do much of anything for me. The middle, a parody of pet advice columns, was almost cruel as it mocked the owners of pets who ask for advice. The third, the satire of Fowler's grammar books, was actually pretty helpful. Most people would write better if they read Thurber's book instead of Fowler's. Plenty of illustrations. Worth picking up the book just for ELIZA CROSSING THE ICE and BURGLARS FLITTING ABOUT IN THE ATTIC OF A HOUSE IN WHICH THE MASTER IS HOME ALONE. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
