It shows children that just because they have a friend who does not do the same things as them does not mean they can not enjoy it. Also, that just because they are used to a certain way does not mean the others way are bad. However, the other ways are just not always for them. ( ) A tortoise who enjoys the sedate life is bagged in the jungle to be sent off to a restaurant and made into soup. He doesn't make it to the restaurant but is taken home by a horticulturist who names the tortoise Sunny Boy. Sunny Boy enjoys his quiet life but outlives the horticulturist and is passed down from nephew to nephew, each of whom enjoys quiet pastimes such as stamp-collecting and reading Latin. Sunny Boy outlives them both and ends up with a nephew who has a taste for daredevil antics. This rocks Sunny Boy's world who longs for his previous sedate owners. But he can't help but feel a thrill when this nephew takes him over the Niagara Falls in a barrel. Told in the tortoise's first-person voice, a tone that goes from contented to shocked and resigned dismay. Sunny Boy is a story about a tortoise who wishes to live the quiet life. He becomes a pet in a family. As each owner dies, he is passed on to a new family member. Finally, he ends up with Biff, a daredevil, who leads a wild and adventurous life. Sunny Boy discovers that although he loves a quiet life, a little adventure from time to time is a good change of pace. Sunny boy was a tortoise who led a calm life until he was inherited by a daredevil. Although he loves accompanying his owner on his various stunts, he longs for the quiet life he had before. It is then that he meets a little girl who loves all of the same things. The little girl and the daredevil end up sharing the turtle, so he gets the best of both worlds. This a wonderful, engaging little story, and I think the fact that it is told from the tortoise's point of view would help to engage students. Sunny Boy has lead a calm life until he gets passed down to the daredevil in the family. The both go on crazy adventures. Not until they go over Niagara Falls is when a little girl takes over Sunny Boy's care. The daredevil realizes that it is not a life for a tortoise and lets the little girl become his caretaker. They do get visited by the daredevil from time to time and that is plent for Sunny Boy. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
