The preface of this report reviews the two-year project entitled Remembering Black Loyalists, Black Communities that researched the earliest group of Blacks to migrate to Nova Scotia.The introduction summarizes the history of Black emigration to Nova Scotia after the end of the American Revolution. The main section lists names of Black Loyalist emigrants to Shelburne County as recorded in the Book of Negroes, an inventory of persons legally eligible to leave New York on British ships between April & November 1783.Information provided for each name, if relevant or available, includes family members, former & present slaveowners if any, escape history, place landed in Nova Scotia, name & type of ship, the exact text from the Book of Negroes, and biographical information from other sources.
