Four Stars for strangeness alone ( )

This is definitely one of the oddest things I have read, but very enjoyable. Its plot .. well God hates humanity and is feeding their souls to the Walm, an interdimensional doorway that allows in more exciting races for the world to him to play with. Leaf, a drop out punk loser and his motley crew of friends team up with Satan in order to survive the apocalypse.

I was amused and disturbed in equal measure. Its funny, irreverent, full of gratuitous sex and violence and packed with loads of interesting ideas. I loved the different races (the silence preying on those who make sound) and little asides like the human built Heaven 2 built on horses souls. However I did feel the plot didn't quite bind it together and lost it a bit in the middle, also some of the minor characters could of been more interesting. ( )

I read this because of two things.
1. An ex-gf recommended it and I'm a sucker for literary dames.
2. Every title this guy has is awesome.

It's not awesome, but it is fun and different. I like things about the end of the world and about religion. I don't like some of the crap philosophy and some of the stilted writing. It gets a little old and many of the diversions in the writing are just distractions from the story.

I won't be a fan of the author, but it was nice to have tried this flavor of ice cream. ( )

This book is absolute fantasy. the story just seems to follow what totally extreme ideas the author thinks of next. I would liken it to a horror/pornographic version of Alice in Wonderland, but not as good. I feel the author is purely aiming for shock value (Hence the picture on the cover!)
