This was my first Sofie Metropolis book and I really liked it. The characters are likable and the mystery was an interesting one. The Greek-isms of Sofie's big Greek family really reminded me of the Big Fat Greek Wedding movie (which is a good thing). I'm looking forward to reading more of these books. ( ) Private investigator Sofie Metropolis is finally getting the hang of her new job. It's been a while since she shot any of her clients, and she's making enough money that she doesn't have to take on missing pet cases anymore. Then a huge case comes her way. The wife of a pro baseball player wants her husband followed, because he's been acting strange lately. Sofie agrees, thinking this is going to be just another cheating husband, but the case ends up being more than she bargained for... and possibly more than she can handle. Just to make life more annoying, Sofie still has to deal with her cheating no-good ex-fiance, mystery man Jake Porter hasn't stopped by in awhile, and the Greek baker Dino is offering Sofie more than just baklava. The basic concept of this book is Stephanie Plum meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I love SP, I love MBFGW, but I'm having a hard time coming up with something to say about this book, which is never a good sign. I enjoyed the first two books, but I was pretty bored with this one. I think my biggest problem was that I wanted to see more of Jake Porter, but he barely has a speaking role in this book. The saving grace for this book is the continuation of two characters introduced in previous novels, Dino the baker and Eugene Waters, rookie PI. Between the two of them, they manage to keep the book ticking along in an entertaining way. My final word: 3 out of 5. This book is good if you're looking for some mindless entertainment, but it was disappointing compared to the earlier books of the series. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
