The tales are cute and my niece enjoyed reading them. Her favorite was Soul. I picked up and bought Hipira solely based on its illustrations. In love with the drawings; the toad king looks the coolest. The dark colors and shading set the mood into Hipira whimsical vampire world nicely. (

The visual style of the book is very appealing, full of lush greens and blues, and whimsical Seussian shapes. The darkness is punctuated with bursts of red and yellow, giving life to the home of these vampires. Hipira himself is cute, with a round head, an elf's ears and Ed Grimley's hairdo.
