I liked this book because it was told by a little girl and I think that it would relate to the younger children well. I like how the story touched even me who already knew about the trail of tears.
In the classroom this would be a wonderful book to begin a history lesson about the Indians with. After we read it we can drow pictures, do shadow boxes, or even write a story of our own to show a hard time that the students had to go through to reach a goal. Also, I could use this story to teach a lesson on goal setting and how it is important to follow your heart and dreams like the Indians did, and how times might be hard but to keep going. ( )
