I had not known that apparently her only child, Paulina, was not fathered by her husband, Nicholas Longworth, but by Senator Borah! The book revels in all the oddities and incongruities of the world it talks of. So many of the people are so odd. This book just prattles on, making no effort to try to figure out why people were as they were. This book usually portrays Alice as a vicious person, who is wholly unadmirable--until the 1960's when she became a "character" rather appealing in her oddity. Alice was a pagan, though her father was a moral person. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Known as the other Washington monument, Alice Roosevelt Longworth knew personally every president from Benjamin Harrison to Jimmy Carter, and for over 70 years reigned as Washington's grandest grande dame. Here is both the delightful and the dark sides of her life. 16 pages of photos. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
